[edit] Storyline

A strange meteor shower near the Tiber River in Italy brings from space a new form of mineral: Tiberium. Highly toxic and prone to mutate all life that is exposed to it, Tiberium is a hazardous but highly valuable mineral that is capable of soaking up ground nutrients and concentrating them into large green crystals that are harvestable from the ground; the world economy is revolutionized. The Brotherhood of Nod, an ostensibly ancient secret society, emerges as the world leaders in the Tiberium trade, funding its own military under the leadership of its mysterious and enigmatic leader Kane. In response, the UN creates the Global Defence Initiative (GDI), and in the process sparks a world-wide war between the two factions.
